Wild Bird Society of Japan (WBSJ)

WBSJ organizes nationwide bird surveys participated by its members and other NGOs. Two datasets from these surveys are provided to BirdBase. WBSJ and Hokkaido Institute of Environmental Science jointly studies data management system of ornithological data. WBSJ is the Japanese Partner of BirdLife International.

BirdLife International (BLI)

BirdLife International (Cambridge, UK) is a federation of bird conservation NGOs from more than 100 countries and territories. The Asia Office in Tokyo cooperates with BirdLife Partner NGOs and coordinates bird survey and conservation projects in Asia. BLI provides two datasets, Threatened Birds of Asia (Red Data Book) and Important Bird Area.

Ministry of the Environment

Ministry of the Environment has been conducting National Survey on the Natural Environment since 1973. This survey records animals and plants of many taxa nationwide. Bird breeding survey datasets are provided to BirdBase.

Hokkaido Institute of Environmental Sciences (HIES)

HIES compiles distribution database of animals and plants using information in reports and literatures about Hokkaido. Bird data from the database is provided to BirdBase.

METADATA
Metadata is catalog of data contents. In other words, metadata is to data what library catalog is to books. This section provides metadata of the data sets stored in BirdBase.
